Liz Oke Weekly links roundup – January 13th, 2012

Weekly links roundup is back at lizoke.com after almost a 1-year sojourn. We are back – watch out for the weekly roundup and some random firings of multiple neurons in between.

With all this talk about SOPA, good ol’ Rupert Murdoch censoring the internet, some hackers are trying to launch their own sattelite into space to build an uncensored internet:

Uncensored Internet anyone?

The always annoying, ever-present Kardashians clogging up North American culture. Here is one attempt to stop it – worth a peek. Apparently the ringleader is trying to sue this site:

There has been talk of bacteria eating oil in the gulf coast, here is some more food for thought:

Way to start it up again Liz :-) Looking forward to future round’em ups.

“When will it gain momentum?” I’m wondering the same thing. My experience with the G+ community is its more open oriented than Facebook likely because I have a more professional network/circles on G+ with people using it like they would Twitter along with public photo updates.

Google has a long history of failed attempts (remember Buzz…) – but then there is gmail – which slowly has become popular despite being in beta for years.

Its hard to say with Google+ – I still keep my eye out for it on a business perspective, but I don’t use it on a personal level. People may grow tired of Facebook and go over to it, but I don’t see people using both. It is too much. No one has that kind of time.

I like the concept of hangouts and think it would be GREAT to use in business for meetings, seminars, etc.

The business usage is definately a good opportunity since Google already provides many other business solutions like documents.

Thanks for pointing out the hangouts. We’ve been using a custom circle at my work and related partners for an Innovation community and they would dig the hangouts, especially for teleworkers.
